Why am I Fat and Overweight?
There are several reasons for being overweight.
Emotional problems and stress are the main cause of overweight and obesity.
If you have an underlying emotional obstruction which you haven’t dealt with, like physical or mental abuse, you will never be able to reach your ideal weight and keep it there, no matter what diet or eating method you follow.
In most cases, these emotional problems triggered your body to surround itself with a fat layer to stop other people getting in close relationship with you.
Eating may comfort you, so whenever you are stressed out, eating calms you down.
Once you realise when your problem with weight gain started, you can deal with it and you will start to experience effective weight loss without dieting.
Other factors like medication, illness, a physical disability or a hormone imbalance may be the cause of overweight and obesity, which can be dealt with.
Starvation – Too much of the “wrong foods” causes our bodies to starve for good nutrition.
Too little exercise
One of the best ways to address these issues is exercise. A brisk walk for at least 30 minutes per day will be a very good start, because your brain secretes the “feel good hormone” called serotonin, which will help you to deal with whatever difficulty you may experience.
Exercise and good nutrition will help to stimulate your metabolism which will assist in weight loss.
Why does it seem impossible to lose weight?
Before you can lose weight, you have to understand the root of the problem and why you gained weight, which will make it easier to fix the problem.
First you have to determine the root of the problem as stated above.
Overweight and Obesity are also directly linked to poor insulin management.
The problem is that we consume way too much carbohydrates (flour products – bread, cookies, muffins and starches - potatoes, rice, pasta, etc.), which causes our blood sugar to fluctuate too much between meals.
Our bodies adapt to a high carbohydrate intake and whenever we eat, the pancreas releases more insulin than necessary. After the insulin has done its job, there is still insulin left in the blood.
Insulin left in the blood does a few things:
- It causes sugar and carbohydrate cravings.
- It also causes Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycemia), because it drives the blood sugar levels too low. Our brains need a certain amount of glucose to function and when the levels are too low, we cannot function properly. We can’t think normal, cannot concentrate, feeling tired, irritable or sleepy, because the brain is not fed.
- The presence of insulin in the blood completely prevents you from burning fat.
This is one of the major issues why we can’t burn fat, because when insulin is in the blood we don’t have any energy coming from the blood because there is no sugar to burn as fuel, and we also cannot access the cells where energy is stored as fat, because the cells cannot release energy while the insulin is trying to force more energy into them.
Blood sugar determines appetite, when it drops too low we feel hungry.
(some people remain hungry due to emotional reasons)
Starvation Diets causes the metabolism to slow down and therefore one struggle to burn fat as well.
The right nutrition and exercise is non-negotiable if you want to reverse the process.
