What are the risks and complications of obesity?

If your child is overweight or obese, it's more likely that he/she will develop some serious health problems more usually seen in adulthood.Fat Kids

Physical consequences include:

  • such as hardened and blocked arteries (coronary artery diseases),

  • increased risk of heart disease

  • high blood pressure

  • diabetes

  • breathing problems

  • trouble sleeping

Child and adolescent obesity is also associated with increased risk of emotional problems. 

Teens with weight problems tend to have much lower self-esteem and be less popular with their peers.  Depressionanxiety, and disorder can also occur.
